Metro Line One part of Quito’s Hierarchically Integrated Transit System (HITS) integrating metro, BRT, regular bus services, walking and cycling. 81km BRT corridors maxed out, historic UNESCO downtown area prevented surface expansion. Multilateral financing: World Bank, IDB, Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), European Investment Bank. Global Infrastructure Facility provided technical assistance and feasibility studies. Private sector: civil engineering, signaling, electrification. Operations by EOMMT joint venture (Transdev and Colombia’s Metro de Medellin) under 6-year contract.
